How to Get the Right Fit
Getting the right helmet size comes down to three steps:
1. Measure your head
2. Match your size
3. Confirm your fit
Take two minutes to get it right—it makes all the difference on the road.
STEP 1: MEASURE YOUR HEAD
Use a soft measuring tape and wrap it around your head about 1 inch above your eyebrows, keeping it level all the way around.
Measure in centimeters for the most accurate result.
Pro Tip:
Measure twice. Even small differences can affect your fit.
STEP 2: MATCH YOUR SIZE
Use your head measurement to find your starting size in the chart below.
Your measurement gives you the correct size range—your final fit is confirmed in Step 3.
Between sizes?
- Size down for a performance fit (snug, secure)
HEAD SHAPE & MODEL FIT
Not Just Size — Head Shape Matters
Getting the right size is step one. Getting the right shape is just as important.
Most riders in North America fall into the intermediate head shape zone - and that's what Voss helmets are designed for.
If you're intermediate oval or round, there's a strong chance our helmets will fit you.
How to Tell Your Head Shape
- Intermediate Oval (most common) → balanced front-to-back and side-to-side
- Intermediate Round → slightly wider side-to-side, with mild front-to-back balance
- Round → wider side-to-side, shorter front-to-back
- Long Oval → longer front-to-back, narrower on the sides
How This Affects Your Fit
- If your head shape matches the helmet → even pressure, secure fit
- If it doesn’t → pressure points or loose areas
Common Signals:
Pressure on forehead → helmet too round
Pressure on sides → helmet too narrow
Loose all around → likely too big
Check the Product Page Before You Buy
Each helmet model may fit slightly differently.
Every Voss product page includes model-specific fit notes—make sure to review them before ordering.
Example:
The 991 fits slightly shorter front-to-back due to the integrated MIPS system.
These details matter more than people think—they can be the difference between a perfect fit and a return.
If You Have a Round Head Shape
If your head is more round and you’re considering an intermediate oval helmet:

In some cases, you may need to size up or choose a different model to achieve a proper fit.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE (KEY EDUCATION)
What a Proper Fit Feels Like
A new helmet should feel snug, secure, and evenly tight around your head.
- Cheek pads should press firmly against your cheeks
- You should feel even pressure all around—no gaps
- The helmet should not move independently from your head
Important: If it feels “perfect” right out of the box, it’s likely too big.
BREAK-IN PERIOD
It Will Break In
New helmets always feel tighter at first—that’s by design.
- Interior padding will compress slightly after 10–15 hours of riding
- The fit will relax just enough to become more comfortable
What to expect:
Snug at first → comfortable over time
What to avoid:Loose on day one → too big long term
STEP 3: CONFIRM YOUR FIT
Step 3 — Confirm Your Helmet Fit
Use the checklist below to make sure your helmet fits correctly and is safe to ride in.
If your helmet passes these checks, you’re good to go.
If not, you may need a different size.
Helmet Fit Checklist
This checklist helps you determine whether your new helmet fits correctly and is safe to ride with before you remove tags or ride in it.

COMMON SIZING MISTAKES
Common Sizing Mistakes
Most sizing issues come from going too big.
Avoid these:
- Choosing comfort over security
- Skipping measurement
- Ignoring the break-in period
- Assuming all helmet brands fit the same
A properly fitted helmet should feel snug—not loose.
FINAL RESULT
Your Fit Result
If you checked most boxes:
Your helmet fits correctly. Expect a slight break-in period, and you’re ready to ride.
If you missed multiple checks: Your helmet may not be the right size. Recheck your measurement and consider sizing down.
