Riding gear is safety equipment. Before your first ride of the season, take a few minutes to inspect every critical piece.
HELMET CHECK
Inspect the outer shell for cracks, spidering, or soft spots
Confirm helmet has not been dropped or impacted since last season
Press liner foam — it should rebound fully
Check comfort pads for looseness or hardening
Inspect chin strap and buckle for cracks, separation, or loose stitching
Tug firmly on the strap to confirm secure retention
Ensure visor/shield is clear and not distorted
GLOVES CHECK
No holes, tears, or thinning in palm or fingers
Stitching intact at stress points
Armor or padding securely positioned
Proper grip and dexterity maintained
Over-the-ankle boots
Closures (Velcro, snaps, straps) hold firmly
JACKET / RIDING HOODIE CHECK
No tears, seam separation, or abrasion damage
Armor present and correctly positioned (shoulders, elbows, back)
Armor pockets intact and secure
Zippers and closures operate smoothly
Abrasion-resistant panels show no excessive wear
PANTS CHECK (IF APPLICABLE)
No tears or thinning in high-impact areas
Armor positioned correctly at hips and knees
Stitching intact along seams
Closures and adjusters secure
BOOTS CHECK
Soles firmly bonded with no separation
No cracks or excessive wear
Ankle protection intact
Buckles, laces, or zippers secure
Good grip on footpegs and pavement
VISIBILITY & FIT CHECK
Gear fits snugly without restricting movement
No excessive looseness that could shift in a crash
Reflective or high-visibility elements intact
